With this, I can officially close the door on the Selection series. After the disappointment of the sequel series, I was glad to return to the world of the original trilogy.
The first novella goes into the Selection of Maxon's father and mother. The focus is specifically on his mother. The reader sees how Maxon's parents got together in their own. . . very unique way. While it is a unique and somewhat unsettling story due to knowing how they end up in the original series, I did end up empathizing with Maxon's mother even more.
The next novella focuses on Maxon, seeing some scenes from the Selection from his eyes. It's nice to see how he felt about the whole process before it even started. The only thing I didn't like was that it was shorter than the others and didn't have as many scenes as I would've liked.
Aspen also gets his own novella. Whereas Maxon had his novella take place at the beginning of the series, Aspen has his in the middle. It was a nice insight into his thoughts and feelings even as America was dealing with her own emotions. Fans of Aspen will enjoy this novella since he has a very long one in comparison with the others. It goes deep into events during the Elite and I think Aspen fans will like what they read.
The last full novella is about Marlee, America's best friend during the competition. It shows how she fell in love with her own Prince Charming. It was very cute and I enjoyed reading about them immensely, as short as it was.
The remaining parts of the novel show a few scenes from the perspectives of Celeste, one of the Selected, and Lucy, one of America's maids. It also includes third person descriptions of what happened to the remaining Elite after the Selection is over.
It's a nice collection of novellas. If you're a big Selection fan, this would be a great addition to your collection.
I give Happily Ever After | Companion to The Selection Series an A.
